It's a Supermarket Sweep for Dad of two from Barwell
May 20th 2010
A FATHER of two from Barwell has been given the chance to go wild in the aisles of The Co-operative Food in Earl Shilton after winning a trolley dash competition with local housebuilder, David Wilson East Midlands.
David Goodman, 43, beat off stiff competition to bag the dash that was offered to all readers of the Hinckley Herald & Journal as well as visitors to the Earl Shilton and Barwell Living website, www.earlshiltonandbarwell.co.uk
After answering all four quiz questions correctly, David's tie breaker estimate was the closest to the correct answer of 361 new homes that David Wilson is building at all four of its developments throughout Earl Shilton and Barwell.
David, who works within the IT Support department at Eddie Stobart, comments "I was absolutely ecstatic when we found out we had won, it came as a surprise as we didn't expect it, but we had gone to a lot of effort in trying to get the right answer for the tie breaker question, visiting all four David Wilson developments in the area."
As one of his final official duties as The Mayor of Earl Shilton, Cllr Frank Tipper, was on hand to officiate the proceedings.
Cllr Tipper comments "It's so important that we continue to build on the strength of our community here in Earl Shilton and I find it so encouraging that David Wilson has provided such practical support.
"Both they and the Co-op are stalwarts of our town and between them they really focused on this event. Well done all the competitors and congratulations to David with his double trolley load."
David had two minutes to carry out his supermarket sweep and he was cheered on by his wife Kathryn, their two sons as well as staff from David Wilson and The Co-operative Food itself.
David continues "The time just flew by and I've never known two minutes to go by so fast. But it was brilliant fun and I'm really pleased with the two trolley loads that I managed to collect."
David managed to bag goods worth £500 that included various electrical goods, groceries as well as nappies for their newborn nephew.
David concludes "The pressure was really on before I did the dash, but everyone was incredibly encouraging and thankfully I managed to get everything I set out to.
"It's not every day you get to fill your trolley for free, so I'd like to thank David Wilson for giving me the chance to enjoy my very own supermarket sweep, the goods that I've won will no doubt be enjoyed by the family for a long time to come."
Philip Lacey, Sales Director at David Wilson, comments "We've been building in Earl Shilton and Barwell for four years and as a thank you to the residents of the town for your continued support, we decided to offer the free trolley dash to one lucky winner.
"The Co-operative is at the heart of the town and one of the most popular outlets for locals, so it was the ideal place to hold the sweep and I'd like to thank Stuart, the store manager, and his team for being so accommodating.
"It was an extremely successful sweep and I'd like to say congratulations to David, I hope him and his family enjoy the bag loads of goods they managed to acquire."
Stuartt Shaw, Manager at The Co-operative Food in Earl Shilton, comments "We were very happy to facilitate David Wilson's trolley dash, it proved a big success and we're pleased that we've been able to work with the housebuilder on such a positive project for the community."
