Why choose our towns?
Introduction
Earl Shilton and Barwell are two thriving communities found to the south east of Leicester. With a plethora of local amenities on offer, any would be resident would be proud to call these community orientated settlements home.
At the centre of Earl Shilton, you'll find a whole host of local, independent shops offering goods that many of the bigger high streets cannot compete with. As well as shops, the town boasts a range of restaurants, bars and takeaways which will appease even the most discerning of palates amongst us.
A modern town with a population of more than 10,000, Earl Shilton has been dubbed 'commuter heaven', with the M1, M69, M42 and A5 all within easy reaching distance. A new bypass is set to open in January 2009 which can only benefit the area whilst deferring traffic congestion from the centre.
Its neighbour Barwell may not be as big, but still has a lot to offer. A close-knit community of around 6,300, the two churches play an integral role in maintaining the sense of community. St Mary's Church on Church Lane is the village's oldest building with parts of it dating back to the 13th century, whilst Barwell Methodist Church is situated on Chapel Street.
Both areas fall under Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and are served by a number of schools, both primary and secondary.
